A prayer was offered by Faithful Friar Douglas Lawson

The roll call of officers was as follows:

Faithful Friar: Rev. Douglas Lawson present
Faithful Navigator: Richard Kunzier- Present
Faithful Captain: Tony Doria- Present
Faithful Pilot: John Astoske - Present
Faithful Comptroller: Richard Benson- Present
Faithful Scribe: John Mattel- Present

Faithful Trustee: Donald Meyer –Present
Faithful Trustee: John Long-Excused
Faithful Trustee: Bob Brown-Present

The Faithful Friar reported: - Father Doug talked about Gary Gutting, a Chair of Philosophy at Notre Dame. Mr. Gutting’s premise is that birth control is acceptable because many Catholics use it. This erroneous statement shows that he doesn’t have much wisdom. Just because the majority does something, doesn’t mean it follows God’s principles. We must follow the Church’s teachings- not majority rule.

The minutes of the preceding meeting were sent via e-mail and were approved.

The following bills were read and referred- no new bills

The Faithful Comptroller Reported: Budget: Rich Benson reported he has received $230 for dues and all are paid.

We will return dues to one of our brothers who is now a lifetime member.

The Faithful Purser reported: Charles Sunder stated we had $45.20 in expenses. We received $230 for dues. We now have $6278.94 in our checking account.

The committee reports: Tony Doria stated: Vets nursing home at Fayetteville: We will go to Fayetteville on May 10th. Tony will have a sign up sheet at our next meeting.

Camp Lejeune: Jack Buckingham has scheduled our visit for April 26th. There will be a sign up sheet at the next meeting.

Fort Bragg: Joe Kinzer stated October 19 is our scheduled date to visit Ft. Bragg. He estimated that our expenses will be approximately $850 for food and drinks. As in past visits, we will prepare food for approximately 125 Wounded Warriors.

Color Corps: Bill Jankowski stated we will participate in the celebration of Father Doug’s 50th anniversary when the Bishop comes to say Mass. We will wear regalia without swords.

Exemplification: The 4th Exemplification will take place in Greensboro this October. The exact date has not been specified yet by the District Master.

Nominating Committee: Gene Preziosi is the lead person on the committee. One of his objectives in nominating candidates is reestablish the order of succession. There is a desire to involve some of the new Sir Knights in the officer posts.

The Trustees reported as follows: The trustees discussed donating to the Order of the Purple Heart and
recommended a $100 donation. It was approved by a unanimous Assembly vote. (Action: C. Sunder – issue $100 Check)

New Business:

Men’s Retreat: It is next Wednesday, March 28, with Mass at 9AM. A continental breakfast will follow and then the Retreat will begin. The Retreat will probably last until 1PM.

LAMB: Joe Kinzer mentioned there is a need for more volunteers for Walmart and Lowes Foods on Holy Saturday April 7th. Please Contact Lee Burton (755 5275) if you can help out.

New Members: Tony Doria recommended that our Assembly make a pitch for new members at the next Council meeting. Joe Kinzer will assist him. We will get the video that promotes the Fourth Degree and use it at the presentation. Boyd Stanley said he knows 2 new Council members that may be candidates for the 4th Degree, however these candidates must complete their 3rd Degree by mid April. Tony mentioned knows of one Knight who wants to become a fourth degree member. (Actions: Tony Doria, Joe Kinzer – Obtain Mike Samide’s approval for the presentation at the Council meeting, and do the presentation)

Grill for Events: There was a discussion regarding the Church’s grill and the repairs that might be required. Although there was some concern over purchasing a replacement grill, it was decided that we should ask Paul Baker to determine what repairs are required. The result of the discussion was the recommendation that the Council address the grill repair and / or replacement rather than our Assembly. Oftentimes our Assembly rents a grill at Ft. Bragg or Camp LeJuene rather than cart the grill up to those locations. (Action: Rich Kunzier - Raise the repair issue with Paul Baker )

Shirts: The purchase of new shirts was again raised. Bob Brown stated the supplier he used needed a minimum order of 12. The Shirts will cost between 30 to 35 dollars. (Action: Dave Lurix – to pursue vendor for shirts.)

Under good of the Order: Please keep the following Knights and relatives in your prayers:
Jim Harrington is in pain and is allergic to some pain meds.
Denny Matteotti is fighting an infection in his lungs.

There was much less grass and many more barracks. They saw refueling of a tanker, a military dog exhibition, and saw F115 loading ammunition. They toured the flight line and could take pictures. They had lunch and left about 2:15. Then base has about 95 aircraft in the squadron. They fly all over the world and will take retired military on flights if they have room.

Communion Breakfast with wives: It will be on March 11th after the 11 o’ clock Mass. Catholicism Series: Frank Rafalko stated the first meeting was an introduction. Father Barton did the introduction. There was a video and then people discussed the topics. There was no controversy. One hundred sixty five people signed up and there were about 110 for the first meeting.

The Trustees reported as follows: No trustee report.

New Business

Father Doug’s Golden Jubilee: Paul Robinson stated that Father Trent wanted the Knights to get together with the Ladies guild and set something up. Father Trent was going to give $3000 for refreshments. The bishop was contacted and he will come here on June 22 for an upscale reception. Father Doug’s actual golden Jubilee date is May 26. We decided to have the color Guard at the reception with the Bishop. We originally wanted to take Father Doug to dinner at the Stone Chimney but since the bishop was coming a church reception was decided on. Our Assembly voted to also do something on our own for Father Doug. It was suggested taking him to the City Club.
Mike Samide had suggested we go in with the Third Degree for something to honor Father Doug.

The consensus last night was there may be 3 functions for Father Doug. One at the church reception hall for all church members, a second reception or dinner by all of the Knights of Columbus, and a Third dinner for Father Doug from the Fourth Degree.

Under good of the Order.

The closing ceremony was held

The closing prayer was said by: Faithful Navigator Richard Kunzier

Christmas Card Salesmen of the Year

  Tuesday, February 14 2012 @ 11:25 AM CST

General NewsThe purpose of the Christmas Card Sales is twofold. The first is that it is the primary fund raising vehicle of the Columbian Squires of North Carolina. Second is that it emphasizes our campaign of “Keeping Christ in Christmas”.

This year we had a special card depicting Sacred Heart Church with a message chosen by Father Trent. The card sold out almost immediately with requests for more. So we may have to revisit this next Christmas Season.

Our top salemen were Bob Terwilliger and Ray Alonso. Thanks also to all the Knights who helped in our two weekends of sales!
